People volunteer for a wide variety of reasons, especially wanting to help others. But it’s also OK to want some benefits for yourself from volunteering. Instead of considering volunteering as something you do for people who are not as fortunate as yourself, begin to think of it as an exchange. Think about how much you receive when you give and consider why you want to volunteer. Possible motivations to volunteer could include:

• to feel needed
• to share a skill
• to get to know a community
• to demonstrate commitment to a cause/belief
• to donate your professional skills
• to feel proud
• to make new friends
• for fun!

Whatever your motivations are that brought you to this page – just know that you are needed and appreciated! No matter how big or small your contribution is 🙂

What would your job as volunteer be?

We have different events and fundraisers during the year and we always need an extra hand (or three!) to help. We rely on the goodness of our local community and parents of students to help work shifts at the festivals where we have a fundraising stall (like Voorkamerfest in Darling). We also ask our awesome volunteers to help on Saturdays to look after the kids waiting for their lessons to start at the Darling Focus Centre. If we get enough volunteers, you only might have to do 1 or 2 shifts a year! We sometimes need a baker, graphic designer, fundraiser, donation collector or just a fan in die audience – whatever your skills are, we would love to have you!
